1961 US Army Sketch Calendar - Cover
Jan 04, 2008 // // Calendars

During my many years with GE’s Space Technology Center, it was my responsibility to create several calendars for the Department of the Army, who was one of our customers. I was given free rein in producing these calendars as long as the subject matter was oriented toward missiles or space technology. I could write a book about the many wonderful events I experienced and the friends I made during my years of doing these calendars. The original art was usually framed and presented to the Secretary of the Army by myself with top GE management and Army brass present at the Pentagon. The original framed art of these was exhibited in the halls of the Pentagon and remain in the permanent art collection of the Department of Defense.

This calendar, “The U.S. Army Sketch Calendar,” done in 1961, was one of my first. Many of the sketches were done at the White Sands Proving Ground during my many visits there. The calendar was very successful and many thousands were printed and distributed to Army bases throughout the world. (Note: Wernher von Braun on the February page). The calendar was set up on a fiscal year, and thus begins with the month of August.

You can filter the category Calendars to get all of the calendar posts of all of the pages. Other calendars will be posted soon.
